Repair a Hole in a North Face Tent

North Face tents are used for weekend getaways, solo adventurers and base camp expeditions. From the solo Back Pack Bivy to the 2 Meter Dome, there is a North Face tent to meet most every need. Due to normal use it may be necessary to repair a hole in a North Face tent. Repairs require only a few items and are typically easy to do.

Step 1Clean the area to be patched with a solution of mild soap and water. Remove as much dirt or debris as possible and rinse with clean water. Dry thoroughly with a clean towel.
Step 2Pour rubbing alcohol onto a clean rag and clean the area to be patched on the inside of the tent. Clean the area thoroughly to remove any remaining soap film as well as any surface oils that may interfere with the repair.
Step 3Cut a piece of tent repair fabric using scissors. Shape the patch so that it conforms to the hole and overlaps for at least an inch around the hole. Use fabric from a patch kit or an old tent.
Step 4Apply a thin coat of contact cement to the patch. Allow the cement to dry 3-5 minutes or until it is tacky to the touch.
Step 5Place the patch over the hole in the tent. Position the patch so that the hole is in the center of the patch. Wipe any excess cement from around the edge of the patch. Allow the contact cement to dry or cure for at lease 20-24 hours before using the tent.
